Cyrrealism

7-/20-/25-/30-/40-minute performance, premiered in 2024

Life is not always what we want or imagine.
However, what may seem like an unfortunate situation ends up offering new and beautiful paths. The solo show “Cyrrealism” speaks of how these paths get discovered and new doors can be opened.

‘Fenja Barteldres shines with her innovative approach to the Cyr wheel discipline and her brilliant technical skill. By deconstructing the large metal wheel and using its individual parts separately, she creates entirely new images and possibilities.’ – Menno van Dyke artistic director of Circusstad Festival

Tyr Auf!

55-minute solo, to be premiered 01/2028

In this performance, metals and a body share the stage. What begins as a pure encounter with form and precision unravels into a poetic exploration of chaos, failure, transformation, and play. A journey unfolds, from frustration to improvisation, from attempts to rebuild, to surrender, to success. Between object manipulation, wheel technique, absurdity, and quiet beauty, meaning flickers, disappears, and re-emerges in scattered materials, playful gestures, and shadowy forms. This is a piece about letting go, about finding poetry in messiness, and about dancing in the rain when the plan falls through.

‚It will likely be making many stops in the coming years. Few emerging circus artists are currently receiving as much attention across the circus and variety genres, from „classic“ to „contemporary.“ Fenja apparently approaches established thought patterns in the community in the same way she approaches her Cyr wheel: taking them apart, reassembling them in a completely different way, accepting no limitations, and constantly discovering new possibilities.‘ – Daniel Burow founder of Scenic Circus
