New Cyr wheel Creation – 55-minute solo, to be premiered in 01/2028
Tyr Auf! is a modern circus piece that conquers boundaries and takes audiences into a world full of wonder and surprise. Inspired by ‘Cyrrealism’, 2024, it poses the question: Could seeing things differently change the way we understand them? Humanity has made great progress throughout history; fighting for freedom and overcoming barriers. Yet, the greatest obstacles remain in our minds. Ingrained beliefs can trap us in a self-imagined reality, denying us true freedom. Tyr Auf! invites us, to open doors in our minds, to accept things we cannot change, while having the courage to shape what we can and approach challenges from a new angle. With deconstructed Cyr wheels, poetic, original movements, images and technical skills emerge, exploring imperfection and the unexpected beauty of change.
This perormance opens doors to see behind the ovious. Between object manipulation, wheel technique, absurdity, and quiet beauty, meaning flickers, disappears, and reemerges in scattered materials, playful gestures, and shadowy forms. This is a piece about letting go, about finding poetry in messiness, and about dancing in the rain when the plan falls through.
The thematic of Tyr Auf! (which translates to: Open the Door!) is a mindset that I believe to be the key for the improvement of, personal growth, interpersonal behavior and therefore a better world. In addition, the Cyr wheel in its round shape has reached its peak of popularity. While performances with an open Cyr are already being shown, there does not exist such an in-depth research with the wheel, where any characteristic of the unfolded Cyr is used, offering the potential to become a new circus discipline. With Tyr Auf!, the Cyr wheel reaches a new level of artistic depth, offering a paradigm shift in circus and challenging the conventions of the discipline.
